Our Story

AFCO UGANDA was born from a simple but powerful idea: every person deserves the opportunity to live a healthy, educated, and fulfilling life.

How We Started

More than five years ago, a small group of passionate young health professionals, led by Aron Okwir, began a grassroots initiative in Northern Uganda.

They started conducting health education sessions, home visits for the sick, supporting vulnerable families, and encouraging children to stay in school

What started as voluntary community service soon grew into a deep commitment to lasting change.

A True Personal Calling

For Aron Okwir, this journey is deeply personal. Growing up in Kwania District, he witnessed the devastating effects of disease on rural communities. As a child, he survived a severe measles outbreak that claimed many young lives. A dedicated Health Assistant’s timely home visit and guidance towards referral to the District hospital, saved his life. This act of compassion planted the seed for his lifelong calling.

Inspired by Gulu University’s motto, “For Community Transformation,” Aron gained admission in 2021 to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), and awaits graduation this year. He remains committed to using his knowledge to address the health and development challenges he once experienced firsthand.

Building Capacity & Vision

Driven by a desire to serve more effectively, Aron Okwir and Christopher Ogwal pursued undergraduate studies in health sciences. In 2024, while at Campus, the team’s vision gained new strength when they participated in the prestigious Millennium Fellowship, a global leadership program focused on advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.

This experience deepened their resolve and equipped them with valuable skills and networks.

From Vision to Reality

In 2025, that vision became reality with the official incorporation of Amare Future Care Organization Uganda (AFCO UGANDA). Aron also enrolled in the Jim Leech MasterCard Fellowship, further shaping his leadership and social impact journey.

Today, AFCO UGANDA is powered by a growing team of dedicated volunteers, professionals, and community champions who share one common purpose.
